The month of July was tagged by photographers as the month of excitement as the three major giants of the market scheduled camera launches this month. Early in the month, Canon finally launched the photographer’s dream that was the EOS R5 and R6, and tomorrow/next week, Nikon and Sony will be debuting the new Z5 and a7S III respectively.
Tomorrow, Nikon will be officially announcing the new Z5 full-frame entry-level camera alongside a new 24-50mm f/4-6.3 kit lens that will go with that Z5, and two Z-mount teleconverters (probably two new lenses too but that is unclear as at this time). While we wait for the official announcement tomorrow, here’s all that Nikon Rumor has gathered on the upcoming camera;
- 24.3 MP full-frame CMOS sensor
- 5-axis in-body image stabilization
- Hybrid AF system with 273 focus points (same as the Z6)
- Eye Detection AF for both humans and animals
- 4.5fps continuous shooting speed
- 4K Video
- ISO 100-51,200
- 1.1m-dot touchscreen LDC
- Dust- and drip-proof design
- Dual SD card slots
Over on the Sony side of things, asides the date (July 28th for the a7S III), there’s little knowledge about what the camera holds as Sony has been very tight lid about the camera but Sony Alpha Rumors has gotten us this speculative specs sheet on what to expect;
- Redesigned 12MP image sensor with “fast readout” (likely a stacked CMOS sensor)
- 16 bit RAW output
- 15 stops of dynamic range (which should be possible with 16-bit RAW).
- 1080/240p slow motion
- 10-bit 4:2:2 4K/120 fps video, and 4K/120 fps RAW video over HDMI
- 600Mpbs bitrate
- Base ISO of 160 for S-LOG3, without Dual ISO
- No record time limits
- Fully-articulating screen
- UHS-II SD card slots
