In an era where the creative industry is more accessible than ever, standing out isn’t just about skill—it’s about identity. For Oluwatobi, popularly known as Tobiimiles, the key to success isn’t competition, but authenticity and branding.
“Authenticity and branding make it easy for anyone to push. As long as you have the resources, you don’t even have to be competitive—once you put out your work, it will speak highly,” he shares.
This approach redefines the way photographers navigate the industry, emphasizing the power of self-expression and strategic branding over rivalry. In this interview, Tobiimiles delves into his journey, creative philosophy, and what it truly takes to build a name that resonates.
- ‘‘TO START, CAN YOU INTRODUCE YOURSELF AND SHARE A BIT ABOUT WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT DRIVES YOU AS A PHOTOGRAPHER?’’
I am Oluwatobi [Tobiimiles], and I am a professional photographer specializing in Fashion & Lifestyle photography. I am a working creative who puts in work on a daily and also inspired by my environment; where i’m from you get inspired by making it out from ground zero.

- HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY STYLE, AND HOW IT EVOLVED OVER TIME?
Having to develop my style of photography has to be with me handling criticism and controversy surrounding my creative work, practicing and also making corrections on my previous work. I would say the process of defining it is still in process as I want to create more daily so it gets better.

- WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF A DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHER, TO DOCUMENT OBJECTIVELY OR TO ADVOCATE FOR CHANGE?
The major role of a documentary photographer is creating revolutionary moments for change. Personally, I just make sure I have a true definition and also tell a story for change as much as it involves a subject.
- MANY RECOGNIZE YOUR WORK FOR ITS STORYTELLING DEPTH, HOW DO YOU APPROACH CRAFTING A COMPELLING IMAGE?
I really believe in my creative work, speaking on this has to be divine from God and also paying attention to details of the moment. Also, trying to be creative sometimes during the process of multitasking, I want to also be motivated and inspire my audience.

- HOW DO YOU MEASURE THE IMPACT OF YOUR WORK?
Heavy on the entertainment industry breaking boundaries overseas, speaking for every underground creative that anything is possible as long as you believe and put in effort in your field you will be heard. In as much as I do not do this for just publication but I find a lot of happiness holding my camera for hours creating images and motions with sweat. I find it as my safe space.
- HOW DO YOU BALANCE THE NEED FOR AUTHENTICITY IN YOUR WORK?
The first step has to be finding your authenticity as in my creative work. I made sure I wasn’t only inspired when working but also brought some new ideas into visual and also recreating from corrections and practicing all over again, the process never stops. However TobiiMiles has to be authentic before a prestige brand as huge as BOP wants to interview.
- WHAT ROLE DO YOU THINK PHOTOGRAPHY PLAYS IN SHAPING AFRICAN NARRATIVES GLOBALLY?
Photography has evolved overtime creating special moments of time and also the western world influence. Now through photography, you can get information across the whole world through the internet, a very fast way to pass information and data without being there. I’m pleased to say photography has influenced the Africa to showcase culture and style to the world.
- WHAT DO YOU THINK MAKES A PHOTOGRAPHER STAND IN TODAY’S COMPETITIVE INDUSTRY?
Authenticity and Branding makes it easy for anyone to push as long as you have the resources, you don’t even have to be competitive once you put out your work will speak highly.
- WHAT IMPACT DO YOU HOPE YOUR WORK HAS ON THE GLOBAL PERCEPTION ON NIGERIA?
Creating a very good brand push for photographers just the way models are being managed. I want my work to go globally and create that bridge of awareness for international agencies working with photographers and investing in them.

- HOW DO YOU SEE THE ROLE OF NIGERIAN ARTISTS, INCLUDING PHOTOGRAPHERS, EVOLVING IN THE GLOBAL CREATIVE INDUSTRY.
It is very important everyone understands the part they play. Currently you have creatives exhibiting their work across the globe all over which was like that for a couple of years. Everything evolves with time. Personally, I try to be aware of new innovative styles in my field as a fashion photographer so as not to be left out. Every artist has to stay connected to the audience.
- WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE TO YOUNGER PHOTOGRAPHER AND CREATIVE, THAT IS SHARING THIS SAME GOSPEL OF PUTTING NIGERIA AND AFRICA IN THE GLOBAL SPACE.
It is not a “tales by moonlight” journey hence you will have doubts and disbelief at some point in your creative journey but that is when we have to be creative to keep working as it only gets better with practicing. I will find the light if I keep building and collaborating even under pressure.
