Whether you’re an aspiring photographer or a seasoned professional, Gift’s story promises to inspire and challenge you to redefine your approach to creativity.

Let’s explore her world, her philosophy, and her vision for the future of photography.

  • COULD YOU GIVE A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF YOURSELF, AND WHAT DRIVES YOU AS A PHOTOGRAPHER?

My name is Gift Eghator, popularly known as Blue Moon. I am a portrait, beauty, and lifestyle photographer. What drives me is the opportunity to create and enhance beauty, telling compelling stories through my lens while celebrating individuality.

  • HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE AND CREATIVE PROCESS?

My style is a blend of elegance and precision. My creative process involves connecting with my subjects, paying attention to details, and enhancing natural beauty to create images that feel authentic and inspiring.

  • BEAUTY PHOTOGRAPHY FOCUSES HEAVILY ON DETAILS. HOW DO YOU ENSURE PERFECTION IN YOUR IMAGERY?

I focus on lighting, composition, and retouching to bring out the best in every shot. Careful planning and a passion for details help me highlight the subject’s natural beauty while maintaining a clean, polished look.

  • HOW DO YOU BALANCE TECHNICAL EXPERTISE WITH THE EMOTIONAL NARRATIVE IN YOUR WORK?

I use my technical skills to create a foundation for storytelling. By understanding my subject’s personality and goals, I can infuse emotion and authenticity into the images while creating and in post production.

  • EDITORIAL PHOTOGRAPHY ALLOWS FOR STORYTELLING. WHAT INSPIRES THE NARRATIVE IN YOUR SHOOTS?

I draw inspiration from culture, everyday life, and personal experiences. Each shoot is an opportunity to reflect a mood or tell a unique story that resonates with my audience.

AS A NIGERIAN FEMALE PHOTOGRAPHER, HOW DO YOU SEE YOUR WORK CONTRIBUTING TO OR CHALLENGING SOCIETAL NARRATIVES?

As a Nigerian female photographer, I’m aware of the challenges women face in the creative industry, from limited access to resources and opportunities to societal expectations that often downplay our potential. My work aims to redefine how women are represented, emphasizing strength, beauty, and individuality. By showcasing women in powerful yet authentic ways, I challenge stereotypes and celebrate diversity.
I believe photography is a tool for advocacy. Through my lens, I can shift perspectives, inspiring other women to pursue their dreams regardless of societal limitations. I also hope to contribute to a growing narrative of empowerment by mentoring and supporting aspiring female photographers, ensuring the industry becomes more inclusive and diverse over time.

ARE THERE GENRES OR STYLES OF PHOTOGRAPHY YOU WOULD LIKE TO EXPLORE IN THE FUTURE?

I’d love to explore fine art photography more deeply, where I can experiment with conceptual themes and use photography as a bridge between visual art and storytelling. One of my biggest dreams is to hold a live exhibition that highlights the relationship between art and photography.

Through this exhibition, I’d like to explore themes such as identity, culture, and human emotions, presenting them in ways that connect deeply with viewers. It would be a space to blend creativity and thought-provoking narratives, allowing people to experience photography as both a technical craft and an artistic expression.

  • HOW DO YOU BALANCE ARTISTIC EXPRESSION WITH COMMERCIAL VIABILITY IN FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY?

I approach projects with a clear understanding of my creative vision and my client’s needs, ensuring that my work remains both artistically fulfilling and commercially appealing.

  • WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO ASPIRING PHOTOGRAPHERS, ESPECIALLY WOMEN ENTERING THE INDUSTRY?

Believe in your unique perspective and never stop learning. Build your skills through practice, don’t be like me: stay consistent lol, and don’t be afraid to challenge industry norms.

  •  WHAT DO YOU THINK WILL BE THE DEFINING CHARACTERISTICS OF PHOTOGRAPHY IN THE NEXT DECADE?

I believe technology, AI, and cultural storytelling will play significant roles, but authenticity and personal connection will always define impactful photography.
