Abraham Oghobase is a Nigerian photographer and artist who was born in 1979. He currently lives and works in Lagos, Nigeria. Oghobase received a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art from Delta State University in Nigeria and later obtained a Master of Fine Arts in Photography from the University of Lagos.
Oghobase’s work focuses on exploring themes related to identity, culture, and socio-political issues in Nigeria and Africa at large. He is particularly interested in the representation of African people and their cultures in contemporary visual media, and his work often challenges preconceptions and stereotypes about African identity.
Oghobase has exhibited his work in various solo and group exhibitions in Nigeria and abroad, including at the Lagos Photo Festival, Art Twenty One Gallery in Lagos, and the National Museum of African Art in Washington, D.C. He has also been awarded several grants and residencies, including the Dak’Art Biennale Grant in 2012 and the Art Dubai Residency in 2015.
In addition to his photography work, Oghobase is also a writer and has published several articles on contemporary African art and photography. He is a founding member of the Invisible Borders Trans-African Photography Initiative, which brings together African photographers to explore and document their continent.
