Adedamola Odetara is a Nigerian photographer living and working in Lagos, Nigeria. Adedamola is a member of the African Photojournalism Database (APJD) and Indigenous Photograph. His interest in photography is to capture and retell stories that are often overlooked. Telling stories from an alternative perspective about culture, and society in ways that challenge stereotypes, conventional beliefs and opinions. his work is mostly focused on documentaries, fashion, and fine art.
On how his family reacted to his decision on becoming a photographer? He said:
My parents did not have the idea of a “modern photographer”. To them, I wanted to go to parties and follow guests to take their pictures for 100/150 naira; so my dad was initially not receptive to the idea. My mom believes her children will be successful in any career so she was fine with that. After about two years I was finally allowed to attend a photography workshop with Canon.
