Badriyah Islam is a London based photographer who has been doing photography for about 2 years professionally. She initially started when she had to model for her friend as he was doing a project and she just fell in love with his work and wanted to do something similar. Badriyah is an artist, and so a lot of her practical photography skills came about taking pictures for art projects and that’s when she really got creative with it. A lot of Badriyah’s photography focuses on portraits and people. She loves capturing the emotions within the picture and it’s quite personal. She thought she would incorporate that with her interest in mental health and so she worked on creating her first exhibition called “behind the lens”. She sent around questionnaires looking for participants who suffer from mental health issues and took pictures of them in their “happy place” to raise awareness for the prevalence of mental health in our community.
A word for budding photographers – is to just do it! (As cliche as it sounds). She started off really young and lots of people doubted her but thankfully she has been successful with it!
