Lola Akinmade Åkerström is an award-winning writer and photographer. She has photographed and dispatched from over 70 countries for various publications. It is no wonder she received the 2018 Bill Muster Travel Photographer of the Year Award in recognition of excellence in photography. Lola Akinmade’s photography is represented by National Geographic Image Collection and Wonderful Machine.
Akinmade received a master’s degree in Geography Information Systems (GIS) from the University of Maryland. She started her career as a field journalist at Eco-Challenge and worked for 12 years as a GIS developer before becoming a professional photographer.
Lola has contributed to several books. Additionally, she is the author of Due North, bestselling LAGOM: Swedish Secret of Living Well available in 18 foreign language editions and recently, In Every Mirror She is Black.
Lola’s work has appeared in several media outlets such as National Geographic, BBC, CNN, The Guardian, Travel + Leisure, New York Times, Slate, Travel Channel, Adventure.com Magazine, The Sunday Times, AFAR, Lonely Planet, Fodor’s, several in-flight magazines, amongst others.
Lola has collaborated with high-profile commercial brands for various campaigns, promotions, and work assignments. Some of the brands include Absolut Vodka, Marriott International, MasterCard, Mercedes Benz, Swedish Lapland, and Chanel, to name a few. She also owns and runs Geotraveler Media – a multimedia and travel consulting agency providing a spectrum of travel media-related services.
