Jerrie Rotimi is a Lagos-based portrait, advertising, and editorial photographer whose technical knowledge, work ethic, and field experience have convoluted into an inspiring career that continues to blossom.
Focusing solely on fashion early on in his career, his photography eventually led to editorial and commercial projects through working for entertainment publications and advertising companies. Jerrie has worked with several brands to add more to their creative projects. They include Toshiba Germany, Universal Music Group, Elements Magazine UK, Blanck Digital UK, and Guardian Life Nigeria.
In addition, he has been commissioned by VOGUE Italia and was made the official photographer for the international Elite Model Look 2015.
His understanding of portraiture has enabled him to create a diverse body of work ranging from Studio to On-Location where the subject is always principal.
On what his biggest career challenges are, Jerrie said it’s that people don’t rate photography enough in Nigeria as a career field. “They think it’s simply taking pictures and adding filters, but it’s beyond that. It’s amazing how much bigger the business of photography is than people think. Getting people to understand what it entails and to see it as a real business has been challenging.”
Jerrie’s passion for his art is obvious in the quality of his pictures. He says that the need to get better is what keeps him going as he is of the belief that practice, doesn’t make perfect, but gives consistency.
