I can’t count how many lens caps I’ve lost and hence had to replace and I know I’m not the only one who feels this burden but good news; the guys at Canon just filed a new patent for a lens cap that you possibly will never misplace.
Yes, the new cap that doubles as a lens hood is going to be attached to the lens and when open, will act as a lens hood then when shooting is done, all the photographer needs do is fold the hood that acts as a protective covering for your lens.
Whilst this is an incredible feat, it’s not the first of it’s kind; Olympus has designed the same thing for their XZ 1 and 2 compact cameras.
Either way, we look forward to this and hope they roll out the design for all lenses (as speculations are that the patent will only affect their digital camera line up and not includes DSLR/Mirrorless Camera Lenses).
