Earlier this week, the Photography community was set ablaze when documents leaked online to suggest that the Canon EOS R5 would overheat after 20 minutes of shooting 8K/8K RAW and now, Canon has released an official document addressing the problem.
In a media release yesterday, Canon did confirm that the EOS R5 will overheat while shooting videos at 8K and 4K at 120fps/60fps because for reasons pertaining to size, the company didn’t install a fan to deal with the heat generated when filming at those rates. The camera will however, suffer no heating problems while recording at 4K 24fps/30fps. This is coming right after sonyalpharumors released a spec sheet stating that the new upcoming a7S III will record 4K 120fps without the overheating problem.
While Canon is being upfront about the overheating issue, it hasn’t swayed minds as the company has also stated that there will be a delay in delivery of the new R5 and R6 as orders exceeded what the company had earlier projected.
