According to recent reports that have surfaced on the website Canon News, Canon has patent some designs of active cooling RF to EF adapters in Japan that will help expel heat directly from the sensor area of the R5 and R6 and extend recording time.
The report which was published yesterday suggested that Canon has been aware of the overheating problem of both R5 and R6 and has been working on alternative ways to mitigate the problem, ensuring filmmakers and cinematographers who get the R5/R6 get the most out of the capabilities of the camera.
There are two different adapters and both use a fan dissipate heat generated at the sensor area, with one of the adapters holding a fan underneath that draws in cool air from under and dispels hot air from above while the other features a fan built into the ring of the adapter that blows out heat.
If this patent eventually goes into production (Patents are majorly designed that indicate projects company will like to execute. A majority of them never get built), current worries amongst photographers are whether the fans will generate noise and vibrations that will affect overall video sound and quality.
Over the weekend, it should be noted that Tilta also announced their clip on cooling system for the new EOS R5.
