Earlier this week, Canon reportedly temporarily closed about 5 various factories in Japan as a result of supplies from China falling short due to the impact of Corona-Virus (COVID 19).
Reports from Nikkei.com indicate that several factories on the island of Kyushu will be closed for two weeks starting from the 2nd day of March. The supply chain of parts coming from China has been destabilized due to the broader economic impacts of Corona Virus.
With fewer cases of the virus being reported lately, it is expected that many factories that were temporarily shutdown in recent weeks will begin to open.
Canon is not the only camera company to be affected by the virus; Sony in February announced that the virus would affect it manufacturing process of smartphone image sensors and Nikon most recently delayed shipping its new 120-300mm f/2.8 due to the virus but with thing getting better, it is expected that all will return to some form of normalcy in the nearest future.
