According to Trust Insider Nokishita, Canon is planning to roll of 6 new RF Lenses and two extenders in the next couple months. With the Upcoming R5 by the corner, it seems Canon is beefing up its RF Line Up as seen with the new lenses that are set to hit before the end of 2020.
The Lenses include;
- RF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM
- RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM
- RF 50mm f/1.8 STM
- RF 85mm f/2 Macro IS STM
- RF 600mm f/11 DO IS STM
- RF 800mm f/11 DO IS STM
- RF 1.4x teleconverter
- RF 2x teleconverter
Most exciting on the list is the RF 50mm f/1.8 STM popularly known as the nifty fifty, with its EF counterpart being amongst the most affordable and widely used lens in the market. While it isn’t expected that the RF version will be the same price, it’s great that Canon is in the works to getting RF users a version of the Nifty Fifty that won’t cost them tooth and nail unlike the premium RF 50mm f/1.2 that has a price tag of $2,300.
Also on the list are two unusual lenses; the RF 600mm and 800mm f/11 ‘DO’ IS STM. ‘DO’ stands for Diffractive Optics which means that the optics (glass) used bends light to a greater degree, allowing for significantly fewer optical elements to be used and producing lenses that are much shorter by comparison but shorter doesn’t always come cheaper as the EF 400mm f/4 DO costs about $7,000.
Its unclear when Canon would announce these lenses and the space between the announcement and shipping but with the launch of the R5 and rumored R6 by the corner, its safe to say the lenses are only a few months behind in following.
