While the Canon, Fujifilm, Panasonic have released beta software that turns some of their cameras into high definition web cameras, there’s a host of companies like Pentax, Sony, Leica (Nikon has announced they’ll be releasing theirs next month) who haven’t said anything of the sorts about whether or not they’ll be releasing for their users and that is where Cascable Pro Webcam comes in.
Cascable is a development team known for making wireless remotes, tethering and transferring solutions for iOS and macOS devices and their newest creation the Cascable Pro Webcam is a macOS app (macOS 10.14.4 or higher) that will turn compatible Canon, Fujifilm, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, and Sony cameras into a HD webcams for popular video conferencing and streaming programs.
The Cascable Pro Webcam currently supports over 100 cameras, with some even offering wireless connectivity if the camera has built-in WiFi. Cascable has a full list of compatible cameras (see compatible cameras here) and currently supports the following platforms; Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Microsoft Teams, OBS Studio, Quicktime Player, Skype (8.59 or later), Twitch Studio and Zoom (5.0.5 or later).
The app is available to download for free but to unlock all features, you’ll need to pay $40. The free trial doesn’t limit how many times you can use it but an overlay will appear after five minutes of use. You can download the free trial and purchase a license here.
