Last week saw DJI finally unveil their new Ronin gimbal systems that the company teased earlier in September in the form of the all new and quite impressive DJI RS 2 and RSC 2 (RS likely standing for Ronin Series and Ronin Series Compact) and from the reviews that are in, these gimbals were well worth the wait.
The RS 2 is built for heavier systems like the Canon 1DX and compact cinematography rigs like the new Canon C70 while the RSC 2 is built for more compact systems like mirrorless cameras and entry level DSLRs. Both gimbals are lightweight with the RS 2 having carbon fibre built into its structure which reduces the weight of the gimbal while still allowing for heavy payloads.
Both gimbals have a very unique build that is unlike any other gimbal in the market currently and with the new Titan algorithm from DJI, promises a more stabilized performance right out the box with little/no need for user customization unlike the previous Ronins with a battery capable of 12 hours on the RS 2 and 14 hours on the RSC 2.
Alongside the gimbals, DJI has launched an image transmitter called Raven Eye that allows for smooth, lag free video transmission to your mobile device. Peter McKinnon got his hands on the gimbal and below is his first impressions alongside test fotage from working with both gimbals;
The DJI RS 2 is currently available for the retail price of $849 (or $999 for the Pro Combo pack that comes with accessories such as a phone holder, Focus Motor, RavenEye Image Transmitter, dedicated carrying case) while the DJI RSC 2 is available at the retail price of $499 (Pro Combo is priced at $739).
