After months of teasing and anticipation, Fujifilm has finally unveiled what hopefully is the first in its lineup of f/1.0 lens in the form of its new XF 50mm f/1.0 portrait lens for mirrorless cameras and the lens is priding itself as the first f/1 lens with ‘auto focus’ for mirrorless cameras.
Announced last weekend, the lens featured weather sealing and extreme Bokeh goodness with sacrificing the joys of autofocus with the team at Fujifilm boosting of the lens’ AF system wide open in low light situations. According to Fujifilm’s Senior Director of Marketing and Product Management, Victor Ha;
“We’re really excited about the XF50mmF1.0 R WR. Not only is it the fastest interchangeable lens Fujifilm has ever produced, but it’s also an incredible tool for visual storytellers to use in telling their stories because its autofocus can achieve critical focus at very shallow depth of fields.”
Optically, the lens is made up of 12 elements in 9 groups, it has a 9-blade rounded aperture ring that goes from f/1.0 and peaks at f/16. The lens is credited with a great AF system that when paired with the Fujifilm X-Pro3 or X-T4 cameras is still capable of nailing precise focus in near total darkness.

According to Fujifilm, the lens will be available in the “Fall of 2020” and will cost $1,500. To learn more or pre-order it click here.
