Reports by Jason Parnell-Brookes of Fstoppers.com state that since the vast response to Black Lives Matter, camera companies made it known to him that they will be dropping the words “master”  and “slave” from their photographic vocabulary. Whilst Canon dropped the terms in 2017, Nikon dropped it much earlier, in the early 2000s.  The latest camera company to join the movement is Fujifilm.

Initially, when Jason spoke to Fujifilm about the use of the terms they had said that there was no existing policy in relation to the terms but further talks with Fujifilm Headquarters saw an update on the situation. Here’s what a Fujifilm spokesperson told Jason:

“Fujifilm plan to phase out the use of these terms for all our future products. The decision to make sure that future products in production will not use these terms was made recently.”
