Since its inception in 2002 and product launch in 2004, GoPro has been at the fore when it comes to delivering quality action cameras and accessories and now, the company has released the new ‘GoPro WebCam Beta’ software that turns everyone’s favorite action camera into a high definition webcam.
The launch of the app came yesterday, with the company releasing the first version for MacOS users and promising a follow up for Windows OS users. On the mac Safari browser, the app is currently compatible with these video call platforms; Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Discord, and Bluejeans, and if you’re using Chrome, you can use it while using Webex, Skype, Facebook Rooms, Messenger and Slack.
All you need to get up and running is your Mac-Book or desktop, a GoPro Hero 8, and a USB connector. Download and install the software onto your computer and you’re good to go. The software comes with the option to change the video resolution output of the GoPro.
Below is a step by step installation and set up guide provided by the guys at GoPro:
This development is coming in the wake of the global pandemic, with camera companies like Canon, Fujifilm, and Panasonic creating applications that turn their cameras into webcams to enable people to stay connected. You can download the software from here.
