The final four months of every year is pocket-heavy on photographers and cinematographers as camera and photo-related companies are always pulling out the latest arsenals from their labs and into the market. Earlier this week, we saw DJI launch their new cinema camera (with two more announcements scheduled for next week and early November), Nikon is gearing up to officially unveil the Z9 flagship mirrorless pro camera and now, Sony has just announced a new Alpha 7 Mark IV Hybrid Mirrorless Camera.
The camera is equipped with a 33 Megapixel Backside Illuminated Sensor (BSI) so users can be assured of great detailed images and video and good low-light performance. The new camera also features 759 phase-detection autofocus points for 94% coverage of the sensor and features real-time eye-autofocus for humans, animals, and birds. It has a slightly improved IBIS system that offers 5.5-stops of image stabilization, up over the previous 5-stop compensation on the A7 III.
The camera features a new improved image processor and large buffer that coupled with a fast write SD card is capable of shooting 828 continuous uncompressed RAW plus JPEGs (not that you’d ever need to shoot that many images all at once). The camera is capable of shooting 4K videos at 24 and 30 frames per second (the camera says the 4K video is actually an oversampled 7K footage so expect more detail in your footage) but if you want 4K 60fps, the camera will have to crop a little into the sensor and shoot as a super 35mm instead of full-frame. The A7 IV has a flip-out touch screen and the typical map out of buttons on a Sony camera. It features two card slots; one for a CFexpress Type-A card and the other for a UHS-II SD card.

The Sony Alpha 7 IV will be available at the end of December for $2,500. It’ll also be available bundled with a 28-70mm for $2,700.
