There’s been word for awhile that Canon was working on an f/4 version of the popular 70-200mm lens for its RF mirrorless mount with major speculations pointing towards the company’s plan of premiering said lens just before the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and now, we’ve gotten our first glimpse at what the lens would look like.
Courtesy of Japanese blog ‘Nokishita‘, the new 70-200mm f/4 USM IS lens for the RF mount looks almost identity to its f/2.8 counterpart, sharing the compact design and extending tube when you zoom out to 200mm.
The lens features Canon’s usual Image Stabilization toggle as well as another toggle to switch between auto focus and manual focus. There are a couple other switches but its unclear what they control at this point, though its most likely focus related.
It is expected that Canon will announce the lens soon (probably sometime this November) and provide a possible availability date as well as a price point.
