The new additions feature an apochromatic lens design to control color fringing in high contrast situations, as well as anomalous partial dispersion for most of its 11 lens elements. One lens element is aspherical in each of the newly announced lenses.
The two new lenses employ a dual-drive autofocusing system that, according to Leica, can silently travel the full focusing range in 250 milliseconds. The close focusing distance of the 75mm f/2 is 0.5 meters, and 0.6 meters for the 90mm f/2.
Both lenses are identical in physical size; 4.01 inches long and a diameter of 2.87 inches. The 75mm f/2 weighs 1.58 pounds and the 90mm f/2 weighs closely the same at 1.54 pounds. Each has 67mm filter threads.
Leica has a few photo samples taken with the APO-Summicron-SL 75mm f/2 and the APO-Summicron-SL 90mm f/2 on their website.
Leica also hinted at a Summicron-SL 35mm f/2 ASPH and APO-Summicron-SL 50mm f/2 ASPH coming in the second half of 2018, but had no further details to share.
The APO-Summicron-SL 75mm f/2 ASPH is priced at $4,750. The APO-Summicron-SL 90mm f/2 ASPH costs $5,150. Both are available now to preorder and will begin shipping to customers in February.
