Earlier Tuesday, We reported that Nokishita had gotten hold of pictures of Canon’s new 70-200mm RF f/4 USM lens, and early yesterday, Canon officially unveiled the said lens alongside everyone’s favourite nifty fifty, the 50mm f/1.8 STM lens, both for Canon’s mirrorless R Mount.
The 70-200mm f/4 is weather-sealed and comes with Canon’s industry-standard Image stabilization system, capable of stabilizing over 5 stops of shake (7.5 stops if coupled with the new Canon R5 or R6). It features 16 elements, four of which are ‘UD’ (ultra-low dispersion) glass that help control chromatic aberration. The front elements feature Canon’s Air Sphere Coating that reduces flare and ghosting. The lens’s minimum focus distance is 0.6m (2ft), and the focus elements are driven by a pair of Nano USM motors for fast and silent autofocus making it perfect for both still and motion photography. It will be available in early December for $1,599
The 50mm f/1.8 STM isn’t different from its EF counterpart in design or size. It features a total of six elements (one being aspherical) and can focus as close as 0.3m (0.98ft). The ring by default controls manual focus but can be set to control aperture and exposure compensation depending on the user’s specification. It will also be available in early September for $199
