After months of speculation, Yesterday, Sony officially unveiled the new Sony a7S III, a video-focused full-frame mirrorless camera with a 12 MegaPixel sensor, capable of 4K video at 120fps, a thicker body design compared to its predecessors, hybrid card slots, and an all-new menu system.
The new a7S III features a 12MP BSI CMOS sensor with blazing fast readout speeds and a native ISO range of 80-102400 combined with Sony’s new BIONZ XR processor, the a7S III can capture 4K/120p and 4K/60p video at 10-bit 4:2:2 with no pixel binning or line skipping, and also 16-bit ProRes RAW video over HDMI at up to 4K/60p.
The camera also features a redesigned autofocus system with 759-point phase-detection AF points covering over 90% of the image sensor, the camera boasts a maximum continuous shooting speed of 10fps, features an IBIS system, dual card slots (UHS-II SD and CFExpress Type A), a full-sized HDMI, fully articulating touch screen and the world’s brightest EVF with 9.44M dot OLEDs
The thicker build of the a7S III allows for better heat dissipation with Sony stating the camera can do 4K/60fps for over an hour without overheating.
