With companies like Sigma opting to start fashioning lenses for the Canon’s R Mount, ZY Optics has instead unveiled its latest addition to the “Speedmaster” lens lineup for Canon EF mounts with the newest being the Mitakon Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 that is reportedly the only lens that opens wide to 0.95 on a DSLR system.
While there are various lenses that open to f/0.95 for mirrorless systems (like the Nikon Noct 58mm f/0.95, that costs over $7,000), Mitakon says their lens features a different optical design that was tailored specifically for Canon DSLRs with a rear element is so large that the company couldn’t make another one for Nikon F mount shooters.
The lens consists of 12 elements divided into 6 groups, including one High-Refractive Index (HRI) optic and five Ultra-Low Dispersion (UD) optics that minimize chromatic aberration to the barest minimum whilst still promising to deliver “exceptional image quality”.
But photographers who’ll be shooting with this lens aren’t too detail-obsessed because wide open at f/0.95, the lens will deliver some impressive smooth Bokeh, thanks to the 11-blade diaphragm inside.
ZY Optics provided the following sample images below;
The Mitakon Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 is currently available for $800 here and will hit physical shelves soon. The only Canon lens to open wide to f/0.95 is the Canon 50mm f/0.95 Dream lens from 1960, which had only 25,000 pieces ever produced.
