It seems the era for the return of Vintage lenses is upon us as 2020 has seen companies revive more vintage lenses than any year prior. The people at Cosina Co. have most recently announced the revival of the 1951 Voigtlander APO-Lanthar 50mm f/2 Aspherical lens, this time for the Leica M mount (the lens debuted last year for the Sony E mount).
The lens is a manual focus lens that features an all-metal build with 10 elements, that are divided into eight groups, with two abnormally dispersed glass elements and two double-sided aspherical lenses along with a floating mechanism. According to Cosina, this makes the Voigtlander capable of producing a perfectly circular bokeh shape not only wide open but also closed down as far as f/5.6 thanks to its 12-bladed diaphragm.
The lens is currently only compatible with Leica Rangefinders but Cosina says using an adaptor will make the lens perfectly compatible with modern digital Leica cameras. The lens is scheduled to hit start shipping in January of 2021 for $1,150.
