With the first version being over 60 years old, the return of Meyer Optik Görlitz lenses has in no way seen a drop in quality as the company earlier this week released the updated ‘Lydith 30mm f/3.5 version II’.
The version 1 was released via a kickstarter campaign in 2017 and while that lens was great, the new Lydith 30mm f/3.5 II features a completely revamped optical design, new elements and better mechanical construction.
According to the company’s Optics Managing Director Timo Heinze; “We have gathered lots of feedback and decided to step away from the previous mechanical design and to develop it [the lens] from scratch. For us, usability and performance were our main focus. We have also greatly improved the internal optics and are now very satisfied with the final lens… The way Lydith renders colors and draws contrast-rich, extremely sharp images with wonderful bokeh effects, leads to very dynamic images”
Here are some sample photos provided by the company showing what the Lydith 30mm f/3.5 II can do:
The lens is entirely manual focus, has a minimum object distance of 0.49 feet, features a step-less adjustable aperture which makes it a great choice for videography and a 52mm filter diameter. There’s no word on coating of the elements.
The Lydith 30mm f/3.5 II is currently available for $899 and comes in a variant of mounts including Canon EF, Fuji X, Leica L & M, M42, MFT, Nikon F, Pentax K, and Sony E mounts. You can purchase here on the brand’s website.
