In addition to unveiling the flagship Nikon D6 DSLR, Nikon also released two new Z-mount lenses for its mirrorless system tonight: the NIKKOR Z 20mm f/1.8 S and the NIKKOR Z 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR.
The two new lenses fall on opposite ends of the Z-mount spectrum. The 20mm f/1.8 is an “S” lens meant for professional shooters using the full-frame Nikon Z6 and Z7, while the 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR zoom is an affordable and versatile option that’s particularly well-suited to users of the APS-C mirrorless Nikon Z50 (though it’s still a full-frame lens).
Both lenses are weather sealed, however, and even though Nikon says the 24-200mm is “affordable,” it’ll still cost you more than ye’ old entry level lens.
NIKKOR Z 20mm f/1.8 S
The new 20mm f/1.8 lens joins Nikon’s “S-line” of high-performance Z-mount lenses that promise edge-to-edge sharpness, even wide-open, and the latest Nikon lens technology. In this case that means 3 ED lens elements, a Nano Crystal Coating, a customizable control ring, and a multi-focusing system with a stepping motor for fast and quiet AF whether you’re shooting stills or video.
The lens is being hailed as “designed for those who want expansive imagery with increased detail,” making it “ideal for astrophotography or capturing vast landscapes in challenging light.”

The NIKKOR Z 20mm f/1.8 S lens will be available in March for a suggested retail price of $1,050.
NIKKOR Z 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR
The new 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR is all about versatility. With an extremely wide focal range packed inside a lightweight (20oz) design, and stabilization built-in, this lens aims to give enthusiasts a whole lot of bang for their buck.
Inside, you’ll find 2 aspherical lens elements, 2 ED glass lens elements, and 1 aspherical ED glass element with Nikon’s ARNEO Coating, which all work together to help to minimize distortion, color bleeding and flare. Additionally, built-in VR offers 5-stops of stabilization that can work in tandem with the IBIS found in the full-frame Z6 and Z7, or by itself when paired with the un-stabilized Z50.
