In line with the increased need for high definition video quality over video calls and conferences, Nikon has announced that in August, they will be releasing their own webcam beta software for their users and it will be compatible with most Nikon Z mirrorless cameras and DSLRs.
In a press release issued earlier this week during the launch of the new full-frame mirrorless Z5, Nikon also stated that it will release its own webcam software to enable Nikon photographers everywhere to enjoy high definition video conference calls. The statement reads:
“In August, Nikon will release a beta version of the Webcam Utility software for many Nikon DSLR and Z series mirrorless cameras, including the new Z 5. Initially available for Windows 10, the free software will allow compatible Nikon cameras to be used as webcams. When connected via USB, this free software will provide users with incredible sharpness, clarity and flattering depth of field for all of their livestreaming needs including teleconferencing and gaming.”
Earlier this month, GoPro, the action camera company followed the likes of Canon, Fujifilm, and Olympus to release software that made their cameras compatible with various video conferencing platforms and Nikon is the next in line to follow suit. There’s yet to be any word if Sony would release theirs but with the launch of the a7S III around the corner, there just might be hope.
