Pirelli Calendar, one of the most premium publications in photography and fashion, has chosen Ghanaian photographer, Prince Gyasi, as the man behind the lens for its 60th edition, in 2024. The calendar has been in existence since 1964, and having a black photographer shoot its publication for the first time, is another verification to the already existing testaments of the overpouring talent in the black community and the African continent.
With a star-studded list of phenomenal photographers to have ever shot the Pirelli calendar such as Anni Leibovitz, Helmut Newton, Peter Beard e.t.c, Prince Gyasi becomes the first black photographer to achieve this feat.
According to Prince Gyasi, he is “honoured that Pirelli has given me the opportunity to express my thoughts, feelings and emotions on their canvas for the 60th calendar,” Gyasi enthusiastically shares about the undertaking. “Representation and culture are very important to me, therefore, for the first time in the calendar’s history, I have decided that part of the project will take place in my country, Ghana.”
The Accra-based photographer and artist is the co-founder of Boxedkids, a non-profit organization helping kids from Accra get an education.
Prince Gyasi will be the 40th photographer to shoot the Pirelli calendar and among the youngest to ever do so.
