With the debut of the Canon EOS R5 just two months in, reports emerging from the popular Canon Rumors site is that Canon has handed out a high-resolution version of the R5 which the site is calling the EOS R5s.
The camera will reportedly have a 90-megapixel sensor and will be the high sensor spec on the Canon rooster, even topping that of Sony’s a7R IV which is 61 megapixels. Leading on Canon high sensor sheet is the Canon 5DS and 5DS R, which both have 50.6 megapixels.
According to CR, the EOS R5s is already in the hands of select photographers who are putting the camera through the first phase of testing. At 90 megapixels, the R5s is double the sensor power of the EOS R5 which has 45 megapixels. Currently, there’s speculation that Canon is working on a compact, inexpensive full-frame EOS R camera that will cost below the $1,000 price mark and will be announced in the first quarter of 2021.
