According to a report on Canon Rumors, canon allegedly has two new RF adapters in the works that will adapt Cinema lenses to the new R5 and R6 cameras and a speedbooster too that will compete with current leader Metabones.
The report which was published last week stated that the adapters may be coming in later this year and it will be assumed that they will be announced alongside the rumored new M mount mirrorless APS-C camera Canon is working on. Currently, Canon has three RF to EF adapters that were released alongside the Canon EOS R in 2018.
According to Canon Rumors, the adapters in the works include;
- A PL to RF adapter with Cooke/i technology built-in
- An EF-Cinema Lock to RF adapter
- An unspecified speed booster
Adapting cinema lenses to the R5 will greatly improve on its appeal to professional cinematographers who would like to take advantage of the 8K video resolution but wouldn’t want to migrate and get new lenses and all. The speedbooster on the other hand is targeted at EOS R users who would like to shoot high res 4K since the EOS R is subjected to a 1.7X crop in 4K mode.
It currently is unclear when these adapters will drop but suggestions online are pointing towards late August or early September.
