According to recent reports on Nikon Rumors, Nikon is planning to release updated versions of their mirrorless full-frames; the Z6s and Nikon Z7s later this year, adding several important new features and replacing the current Nikon Z6 and Z7.
While the article doesn’t mention the source for the information, the site does state that the upgrades are aimed at fixing most of the complaints photographers had at the launch of both cameras almost two years ago. The upgrades to be expected include;
- Dual EXPEED processors
- A new Nikon EN-EL15c battery (the current models use the EN-EL15b)
- The ability to be powered over USB
- Dual memory card slots
- 4K/60p video
- The ability to use a proper vertical grip with buttons/controls
Both cameras will still feature the same sensors as at launch so there most possible will be no change in image resolution but processing speed of the camera and video resolutions are amongst things that will change and this will come as a welcome development as the current versions of the cameras peak at 4K 30fps and 1080 at 120 fps.
The announcement is likely to come around October but for now, Nikon is expected to announce the new mirrorless Z5 alongside three new lenses on or before the 21st of July.
