According to Photo Rumors, Sony is currently working on a new top tier camera with a 50 MP sensor, capable of 8K video and with a dual SD card slot.
The report which was confirmed by Sony Alpha Rumors (after some controversy) has it on good authority that the camera will have IBIS system (like all Sony cameras before it), feature the new menu system on the A7S III, and will feature a very distinctive high definition EVF. Reported to be coming in the first quarter of 2021, the camera is essentially an A7S III on steroids.
According to Sony Alpha Rumors, the camera will either be called the a9S or a9III and will feature a thermal design that will allow it to shoot videos at 8k/30p ‘without overheating’ but nothing is confirmed yet until the camera gets in the hands of testers and consumers.
Initial price predictions for the camera is ranging between $5,000 and $6,000 but until early 2021, there’s nothing but speculations and leaks to tell us what to expect. The Canon EOS R5 that shoot 8K RAW video, features a 45-megapixel sensor and is priced at $3,899, so if the price predictions are right, it will make the Sony significantly more expensive than the Canon and that might cause some issues with consumers.
