The menace of climate change is one that has been overlooked for decades and with the clock running out, every is trying their best to get the word out on how to drastically reduce human carbon footprint and foster better green initiatives.
In light of that the folks at Africa Soft Power (ASP), in association with African Women Board (AWB) as part of their ‘Road to 100 Million Climate Soldiers in Africa’ campaign have initiated the first annual Climate Change Photo Prize with this year’s theme being “Climate Change and Your Community”. The new competition is open to young people aged 18 to 30 from Africa and the global diaspora community.
Climate change is one of the most important issues of our time, and the objective behind the photo prize is to encourage young people to engage with the issue in their local communities. For that reason, we are thrilled to launch the prize with the theme: Climate change and your community. The prize will showcase diverse stories about climate change issues in different African communities.
The judges will seek a collection of images that best depict the theme and convey a compelling story/message. Entries are open until 30th April 2023. The winners will have their photography exhibited at leading galleries around the world, including London, New York and Lagos, amongst others.
We are pleased to announce our judging panel:
- Julie Crooks: Curator, Arts of Global Africa and the Diaspora at the Art Gallery of Ontario
- Kenneth Montague: Founding Director of Wedge Curatorial Projects
- Renée Mussai: Curator-Scholar and Artistic Director of The Walther Collection, a New York-based arts foundation
