So earlier this week, Apple announced the iPhone Special Edition (SE) that features an A13 Bionic Chip that supposed to make the phone that fastest smartphone in the market, a 4.7 HD Retina Display screen and a 12 megapixel f/1.8 Rear camera.
Starting at $399 (#143,640 Naira), It’s pretty affordable but I won’t delve into affordability right now… It has a single rear camera and after what seems like decades of smart-phones carrying multiple cameras (3 years?), its refreshing to see a phone that packs all the essentials into one camera.
Its beyond rear to find a phone that’s come out in the two to three years having a single camera, rare is until the new iPhone SE that is. With behinds carrying as little as two cameras to carrying 5 cameras (I’m looking at you Xiaomi Note 10 Pro), its refreshing to go back to simpler times when you did all you needed with one camera and didn’t have to juggle switching camera lens.
Another great thing about having a single lens system is being able to use lens attachments. The multiple camera innovation while great was a big hit to people who used lens attachments in their mobile photography. Yes, an argument could be made that the multiple camera system introduced various lens so some attachments weren’t needed but a great majority of attachments that gave mobile photographers the freedom to create unique content were left to the dust because they just couldn’t fit properly.
Apple is saying that the rea camera system “taps into the image signal processor and Neural Engine of the A13 Bionic chip to utilize the computational photography features of higher-end iPhones — things like Portrait mode, all six Portrait Lighting effects, and Depth Control. Also the camera offers Smart HDR, QuickTake (video recording in Photos mode), 4K/60fps, extended dynamic range (for better highlight details up to 30fps), and cinematic video stabilization on both front and rear cameras.
Here are some official photos taken with the new iPhone SE;
Available for pre-order from April 24th, it comes in in black, white, and red in 64GB, 128B, and 256GB capacities and I’d be looking forward to getting one of these for mobile assignments.
