The Sony A mount system was primary on Sony’s DSLRs and while Sony is currently a leader in the mirrorless market, it’s easy to forget that there was a time when the company primarily made DSLRs like every other camera manufacturer. Now, Sony has put out a new A mount to E mount adapter that lets owners of Sony’s A lenses adapt those lenses to newer Sony mirrorless cameras and maintain stuff like auto focus and phase detection.
The adapter provides an opportunity for A mount shooters to migrate to the mirrorless world and still be able to use all their previous lenses and not have to buy an entire new set of lenses. It is strange that Sony is doing this now though, as it’s common for camera companies to debut an adapter for their older mount lenses alongside their first mirrorless camera[s].
Word is that Sony is working to expand compatibility for this adapter but currently, the supported cameras include:
- Sony a7 III
- Sony a7R III
- Sony a7R IV
- Sony a9
- Sony a9 II
- Sony a7s III
- Sony a6100
- Sony a6400
- Sony a6600

The adapter will be available in October for $250 but you can learn more over on the Sony website here.
