One major subject of discussion at the just concluded business of photography conference is that brands as related to photography and videography should set up service centres in Nigeria that would enable photographers and videographers to get their equipment repaired, help update gears, and purchase gears amongst others.
A brand that has proven to understand and shown commitment to improving the creative space (photography and videography) is Sony. We have come to understand that Sony has opened a service centre in Lagos Nigeria where owners of that brand of equipment can clean and service their cameras. This is certainly a step in the right direction as it reduces to a large extent, the amount of money (foreign currency) that creatives who use this brand have to spend, which in turn adds value to the Nigerian naira.
This is very exciting news for the photography community in Nigeria, and can only hope that as the Business of Photography Conference continues to shed light on some of the challenges that cloud running a photography business in Nigeria, other brands will be inspired to play a part in the growth of the photography and film community in Nigeria.
