Last Year, to the shock and excitement of many people, Sony announced that it was going into the drone business with its Air Peak system, (click here to read that story), promising the first look in early 2021. It’s currently 2021 and Sony is holding true to its promise, giving its first look at what we think is one of the drones.
The teased drone held a Sony mirrorless camera [Sony a7S III], as well as its own on-board camera module, and leaned strongly towards a kind of DJI Inspire kind of look. The announcement was made at the ongoing Online CES 2021 (Consumer Electronics Show). Sony states that the new drone would be fully compatible with the Sony line of cameras (probably wireless connectivity too as the preview didn’t show any wires connecting the camera to the drone or third party systems) but as to whether they’ll be compatible with other camera systems, we might have to wait until spring of this year when the company plans to launch the Air Peak system fully.
According to a statement on the company’s official site;
“Sony launched the Airpeak brand with the goal to further develop today’s drone technology while achieving the utmost in value creation. As the first phase of this project, Sony will launch a new business targeted for professional photography and video production in the spring of 2021.”
Below is a test flight video of the drone the company is currently calling ‘Vision S’
