The recently concluded Sony Photo Talk Shop was one that glued each and every one on their seat with interesting conversation, learning and practical session from the speakers about their career in the photography and media space and how to up-skill our craft as photographers.
One of the many sessions was one taken by the creative director of Insignia media and convener of the Business Of Photography titled Strategies to Scale The Photography. He started off with pictures of what he looked like when he started his career in photography and a few other industry experts and asked the question, who is an entrepreneur, and how an entrepreneur can identify gaps and find where their unique skill can shine and stand out. He gave out tips to help young photographer entrepreneurs hone their skills and better their craft a number of which include:
- Photographers should Identify missing gaps and find their unique skills and shine.
- Photographers should explore niche markets and emerging trends such as AI, Reels and every emerging trend as value-added services.
- Photographers should build their foundation in the craft, hone their skill and don’t be a half baked photographer. Know and understand the craft true and through.
- Skill Development: He emphasized the fact that photographers should be continuous in learning and skill enhancement, photographers should stay updated with new techniques and technologies.
- Photographers should understand the role of a distinct style in attracting clients.
In conclusion, one of the many ways to scale your photography business is to expand your client base by reaching out to new customers through social media, online advertising, or networking events. Another strategy is to offer additional services or products that complement your photography, such as prints, albums, or photo editing. Remember, it’s important to maintain the quality of your work and provide excellent customer service as you grow. The Sony Photo Talk Shop was definitely an experience for me as a creative and every other creative in attendance.
