Yesterday, Tamron announced a new lens currently in development with the aim to be the world’s smallest and lightest telephoto zoom lens for full-frame Sony E-mount cameras: the upcoming Tamron 70-300mm F/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD.
According to Tamron; “While we’ve manufactured many popular telephoto zoom lenses that extend to 300mm for DSLR cameras, the new 70-300mm F4.5-6.3 is the first model designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras. [We’ve developed this] with the concept of bringing the joy of easy telephoto shooting to photographers everywhere, it’s the world’s smallest and lightest 70-300mm zoom lens…”
Tamron states that the lens is moisture-resistant and measures just 5.8 inches (14.7cm) long, weighs 19.2 oz (0.54kg), and has a maximum diameter of 77 mm. It has a 67 mm filter diameter and promises to offer superb optics with aberration correction and also a fast/precise/quiet auto focus system using the company’s RXD stepping motor.
Tamron hasn’t announced final specs or pricing on the lens but the company says if all goes well, the lens will be launched in the fall (September-December) of 2020.
