In recent times, Depression and Anxiety have become widespread in society with young people being at the fore of this problem. In the wake of the Corona Virus Pandemic, it’s become even worse with the W.H.O estimating “one in twenty-seven people in Sub-Saharan African to be prone to suffering from depression” and with the religious and societal stigma that surrounds mental health in Africa causing another problem hindering people from going to get help.
With Creatives, the case sometimes is even worse hence prompting said creatives to use their various art forms to express said depression or escape the realities of it, and here is where The Peace Exhibit comes in.
The Peace Exhibit is an online exhibition, curated by Nigerian fine art photographer Chudy Ogobegwu, that features a collection of fine art portraits and literary works created by photographers, artists, and writers across Africa, exploring the subject of depression, anxiety and the search for personal peace with its sole aim to stir up conversations, shed light on the issue, and proffer solutions to the problem.
The Exhibition is open to photographers, poets, and visual artists. To join, all you need do is send a mail to thepeaceexhibit@gmail.com. Be aware that the deadline for submission has passed. The exhibition started on the 16th of May and will run till the 18th of July, 2020. To visit the curated works, click here, and to learn more about the exhibition, click here.
