HDR is a complicated aspect of photography; when it comes to bringing out the deepest shadow and the brightest highlights in a scene HDR is of good use.
HDR (HIGH DYNAMIC RANGE), is a mode in phones and cameras used for shooting images. Understanding the functionality of HDR will help you produce beautiful images no matter the lighting condition.
HDR helps you balance light in a scene, this technique is used by photographers where there are significant differences in exposure in a particular frame. In essence, it helps you balance the difference between over-exposure and under-exposure. For instance, shooting in an enclosed area where you only have one source of light: this could be indoor where light only comes from the window or from the door entrance. Using the HDR technique will either under-expose the room or over-expose the outside. Here are some tips to help you shoot better in HDR.
- LOWER ISO: Using a lower ISO setting would help reduce the noise on your images. It is better to start with a lower ISO. HDR photography is generally known for creating noise and grainy images. Although this can be fixed in post-production. Increasing your ISO will reduce the DR sensor.
- SHOOT IN CONTINUOUS MODE: Variably, all DLSR camera allows continuous shooting mode. With this mode, you can shoot a lot of bracket needed and it prevents you from having to click the shutter several times. When all the brackets are taken at different exposures when put together you get an overall balance exposure.
- USE A TRIPOD: With the help of a tripod, there would be no case of blurry images. However, it is also possible to shoot in HDR without a tripod where there is good light although, this will require you to be firm and steady when shooting at a very fast shutter speed. Without a tripod, you will not be able to take any night images or clear daytime images.
- STAY CALM AND BE PATIENT: You will definitely need to be patient when shooting long exposure, where you will need all unnecessary movement to clear off to get the best, also to get the extraordinary, you will need to give time to capture all the exposures.
WHEN CAN ONE USE HDR?
There are various ways where HDR Photography can be used such as nightscapes, interior photography, dramatic skies, and sunrise and sunset.
