With most of the news surrounding the mirrorless market, it’s a relief to see that some manufacturers are still producing gear for DSLRs. Tokina Optics just unveiled a new wide-angle zoom lens with a fixed zoom aperture of f/4 for Canon’s EF mount and Nikon’s F mount.
The new ATX-I 17-35mm f/4 is built for full-frame Canon and Nikon DSLRs (but can be adapted to crop sensor cameras) and features two super-low dispersion glass elements and one aspheric glass element that according to Tokina will allow for excellent contrast and sharpness while controlling chromatic aberration.
The lens also features a clutch mechanism for alternating between manual focus and autofocus. To switch focus modes, you either snap the ring forward for autofocus or backwards towards the lens mount to enter manual focus. According to the company, the 17-35mm f/4 will offer “precise autofocus” thanks to a combination of the Tokia GMR sensor and SD-M (Silent Drive-Module) whilst also offering some level of “moisture protection” though to what degree, the company didn’t say.
The new Tokina 17-35mm f/4 ATX-I lens would retail for $600 and will be available on December 11. Click here to preorder.
