An Integral part of any film venture is the audio. Good visuals and audio combine will bring any motion picture production to life and in some cases, while you could get away with a little ‘less than standard’ visually appealing subjects or techniques, once your audio is off, the audience would most likely be uninterested in your story hence making good audio is a super vital part of any film production.
It’s in that light that Gene Nagata of Potato Jet YouTube channel alongside renowned Hollywood sound engineer Alex Knickerbocker (Man of Steel, Hawaii Five-O, Bright,etc,.) dissect into various kinds of microphone and the results that they’ll give if used right.
They go from frequency range and what they mean, to types of microphones like boom and lav/lapel microphones to a lot of other things that I quite honestly don’t understand (But I’m a photographer, not a fimmaker so I guess that’s okay). Click to watch the video below;
