Whenever we want to get something new, we let the sweet joy overshadow us to the point where we forget the basic elements of what we want to acquire. We get to express joy about finally having gear that not only meets our current needs but that we can use for a long period of time. This process is always daunting; having a wide range to chose from and consciously aiming for what your money can afford.
Below is a List of Mistakes to Avoid as You Forge Ahead to Acquire Your Gear.
- WRONG BUDGET PLANNING: We often don’t research enough for us to know what camera or gear is suitable for us. An outrageously expensive camera won’t magically allow a beginner to somehow start attracting World press photos or Getty images. Know your professionalism level before shopping for your camera.
- TEMPTED TO BARGAIN: At this point, you will definitely be tempted with prices. There are so many temptations or distractions once you enter into the store offering you special deals on their cameras and catching a glimpse can make you lose focus of what you intended to buy. Don’t ever buy a camera or camera gear because it’s cheap or sounds very good to the ears and try as much as possible to leave with what you had in mind.
- DREAM BIG BUT BE REALISTIC: A majority of us have high hopes but when push comes to shove, we can’t keep up. As a new photographer, aspiring to become exceptional at what you do is a major desire. However, always shop according to your skill level, shop based on your confidence and your ability. Try not to get ahead of yourself when it comes to what you think you’ll accomplish, by spending a lot of money on new camera gear right now.
- PRICE IS NEVER EQUAL TO QUALITY: Because a particular camera is expensive doesn’t mean it is of high quality. Great photography equipment is only going to be as good as the person actually taking the photos. Try to focus less on the price tag, and more on whether or not a given item is right for you, especially when buying a camera.
- SEEK PRO ADVICE: The ability to trust what you’re investing your money in should be your basis for purchasing a camera. As part of your assignment before stepping into that shop, consult your mentors on what gear you need to get next as they can give you detailed advice on what to buy.
