As the DSLR era may very well be coming to an end, Canon still has a few pieces more it wants to contribute to the system it dominated for so long. We’ve been in awe of the newly released DSLR flagship EOS-1D X Mark III, and now they’ve announced the entry-level EOS Rebel T8i.
The new EOS Rebel T8i features a 24.1-megapixel sensor that will support Dual Pixel AF in compatible shooting modes. It has an updated DIGIC 8 image processor and can shoot at ISOs up to 51,200. Weighing in at 1.13 pounds including the LP-E17 battery and SD UHS-I memory card, the Rebel T8i is CIPA rated for 700 shots per battery charge. The rear 1.04 million-dot LCD display measures in at 3 inches and is fully articulating for easy selfie shooting.
There are a total of 45 cross-type autofocus points in Live View mode, Manual Focus Peaking is available for stills and video. High-speed Continuous shooting has advanced to firing up to 7 frames per second through the viewfinder and 7.5 frames per second in Live View. The EOS Rebel T8i has also received a spec upgrade to its metering system, bumping up from 216 T7i to now 384 zones for more accurate exposure evaluations.
The EOS Rebel T8i can record 4K24p 120Mbps video, however with only contrast autofocus and no longer Dual Pixel AF. Full HD 1080p footage can be shot up to 60 frames per second at a bit rate of 60 Mbps with Dual Pixel AF. The Canon EOS Rebel T8i is priced at $749.99 for the body only, or $899.99 as a kit that comes with the EF-S 18-55mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens.
