It’s no gainsaying that commercial photography is one of the biggest markets in the photography industry with its various areas of exploration.

Commercial and fashion photography basically involves shooting fashion wears and accessories in detail. It is also used to promote or sell photographic products and services with the aim of making money. Commercial photography ranges from product photography, lifestyle photography to fashion photography, etc. It is quite difficult to make a career out of commercial photography coupled with the obvious fact that it is quite competitive.

The purpose of commercial photography is so vast that you can’t mention all of it, it only depends on what you’re interested in and who your target audience is. It is mainly used in advertising or promoting and selling products and services.

There are ways in which you can become successful as a commercial photographer:

  • Find what inspires you: Look for what inspires you the most to create and look for how you can infuse different creative styles into your work.
  • Prove what you’re good at: Always endeavor to put out your best work because your clients will only look for the best before awarding you a job offer.
  • Don’t quit your day job for photography: It’s true that a lot of people made it through photography but before then they had something outside photography.
  • Pitch your idea to your model: Your models can’t see into your idea until you direct them to act as you want.

So how should you charge for your commercial photography service?

  • Charge per hour or daily.
  • Charge for pros and location only if you feel it is necessary.
  • Charge for camera gears even if they’re yours.
  • Post-production fee per image
  • License your images

Make sure you charge for every single thing needed whether you have it or not because of unforeseen circumstances.
