After more than four decades behind the lens, Nigerian photographer Dayo Adedayo has earned continental recognition at the African Tourism Awards in London. For over 40 years, Dayo Adedayo has used photography to capture the beauty, culture and heritage of Nigeria. Now, that commitment to documenting the Nigeria and Africa stories has earned him a major international recognition: Africa’s Best Tourism Photographer of the Year 2026 at the African Tourism Awards in London.
Mr Adedayo announced the achievement with a message of gratitude, describing the award as a personal milestone and a victory for Nigeria and African tourism. He also acknowledged the support of his family, friends, well-wishers and everyone who voted for him. While awards often celebrate individual achievement, this recognition carries a significance that extends beyond the recipient. Tourism photography plays an important role in shaping how destinations are experienced and perceived. Before many travellers visit a place, they encounter it through images. A photograph of a landscape, cultural celebration, historic landmark or everyday community life can spark curiosity and influence someone’s decision to explore a destination.

For Dayo Adedayo, the award is a personal victory. For Nigerian photography, it is another opportunity to celebrate the power of the image to tell our stories, preserve our heritage and place Africa’s beauty before a global audience.
