You wonder why it is titled random tips and not pro tip, because there are a lot of write-ups out there telling people how to use Aperture, Shutter Speed, Composition, ISO, etc. Today, I will be sharing the best tips with you.
- NEVER SWITCH OFF YOUR CAMERA: This may sound archaic or counterproductive but the honest truth is always leave your camera on when shooting; this will give you the opportunity not to miss out on any action. I have once been in a situation where my camera was switched off and by the time i turned it on to capture the beautiful moment, it was too late for me. Keeping your camera on will actually consume less power which most people are unaware of than having to turn it on and off in between shots. Ultimately, it means your camera is ready to go at a moment’s notice.
- SHOOT IN RAW NOT JPEG: Some weeks ago I documented a sporting event and all was shot on raw, the photographer who contracted me asked what format was I shooting in? I said raw, he said he doesn’t like shooting in raw format that it’s usually tedious when it comes to editing. He would prefer shooting on jpeg. Shooting your images on RAW means that when you actually come to edit your image, your file will still start off in color which gives you alternative in manipulating or performing some colour correction.
- SEARCH FOR LOCATIONS: Finding places that you can explore and capture beautiful sites. There are search platforms like Google. In fact, Instagram is a great place to search for locations one can visit; using their feature allows you to search for places and find images that other people have geo-tagged. This prepares you to have insight before setting out. It saves you less time planning, it gives you a more accurate idea of the location from the public’s perspective.
- CREATIVE FILTERS: Have you ever tried using the filters on your camera? Many photographers ignore some functions on their cameras. Although most photographers won’t use these features every time they turn their cameras on, they are still really useful for getting us out of a boring routine. In times when you’re in creative block space or in an unproductive state, one can challenge oneself to a creative mode and try to see what creative effects one can come up with.
- FOLLOW THE STORY: For me the story matters and each time you’re on the creative mode always be intentional with your productivity and always appreciate the beauty you see around you, after all, photography is all about telling a story with your camera and no story is clearly being told in a hurry.
