The Panel Sessions at the recently concluded 2022 Business of Photography Conference were particularly exciting and eye-opening as industry professionals, pioneers and leaders sorted out ways, policies and solutions to growing the photo industry in Nigeria.
The Conference lasted three days with multiple panel sessions, a masterclass and future-oriented conversations amongst which was the session that tackled possible ways to grow the photography retail industry in Nigeria. With the topic; “Upscaling the Retail Value Chain in Photography”, panellists from the various retail sectors in Photography (equipment sales, prints and frames industry and corporate camera brands) provided structured discuss on ways the private and government sectors could grow the industry in Nigeria and afford Nigerians easier access to photo equipment. Leading the Panel was Chris Tilewa of Tilewa Studios. A trained psychologist and portrait/fashion photographer based in Lagos, Nigeria.

Femi Akeusola of The Vanilla Factory, a photography establishment led the session on “Collaborative Evolution; Stakeholders Key to Industry Growth”. Amongst his panel were seasoned photographers like Seyi Body-Lawson of Body-Lawson Studios, Chidi … of Chyder5 Studios, Orilua Janet of Ice Imagery and Dapo Kings, Lead at Dapo King Films. The panel sessions focused on the importance of collaboration in the photo industry, the need for unity amongst photographers and the consequences brought on by the lack of collaborative spirit amongst photographers and others in photo relative industries.
